Hi, I’m Janie, the Autistic Talking Therapist©

I am a late discovered/diagnosed autistic person (she/her, they/them), with over 40 years personal & professional experience working with autistic and other neurodivergent children & adults, educationally & therapeutically.

I am a qualified therapeutic counselling practitioner. Fully insured, DBS and ICO certified.,

My aim as the Autistic Talking Therapist is to provide you with an inclusive, individualised, interrelational, talking therapy service.

Sessions are confidential*, client focused & client led.

Self-discovered/diagnosed people are very welcome.

Please note ~ The Autistic Talking Therapist is not a traditional counselling service. It is a person centred and person led talking therapy service designed especially for the neurodivergent community.

*The Autistic Talking Therapist service is confidential, but disclosures around immediate harm to self or others may, after discussion with you, lead to the appropriate services being alerted.

What is Autistic Talking Therapy?

Sessions with the Autistic Talking Therapist can take the mode of :-
  • Just Talking
  • Mentoring, Coaching
  • Therapeutic techniques, psycho-education, strategies
  • Boundaries – Education, Understanding, Strategies
  • Individual or Group Boundaries Training Sessions

Sessions can be just one mode or a combination. We will work in the way that works best for you,

Just Talking

Sometimes just being able to off-load something that is on your mind and have someone listen to you can be therapeutic.

In a Just Talking session you can talk for the whole 50 minutes, (totally uninterrupted if you request this). You can talk about your chosen topic/issue/interest, or you can just offload whatever is on your mind, or is concerning you at the time..

**Note – Just Talking is a therapeutic service, and as such sexual performance and/or abuse of this service will not be tolerated.

Mentoring, Coaching

Mentoring, Coaching sessions aim to facilitate discussions that contribute to designing and evolving individualised strategies to help you negotiate your lived experience.

Therapeutic techniques, psycho- education, strategies

Therapeutic techniques can assist exploration and understanding of more complex matters, which can aid understanding around triggers, deregulation, and meltdown, whether internalised or externalised. Educational therapeutic mechanisms and strategies can promote self-development of interventional and/or coping mechanisms. Raising your awareness about yourself, your experienced and experiential world, and how you wish to negotiate it, in a safe space, can empower you, your mind health and your daily autonomy.

Boundaries – Education, Understanding, Strategies

Boundaries can be one of the most important things we can learn about to help us negotiate the world we live in. Boundary sessions will help you understand what a boundary is, what a boundary means to you, why they mean what they do, and what boundaries are important to you. You will learn how to develop and design strategies that you can use in a balanced and healthy way.
